about your friends
who will be turned
to broader exiles while
you wait, and watch.

certain madness
upon meeting a gutter
that's closer than you
think in this paradise.

You too, oh sweetest
of hearts, through
trust and a lock
with the high card,
may find tragedy.

I worry as I watch
you swing on that
hammock-chair, as
you focus on your
idolatry with a smile.

I worry because of
your separation from
men and elephants,
how mutated you
have become through
your selfless travels.
